About NSS

The National Service Scheme is an Indian government – sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. National Service Scheme (NSS) in Kongu Engineering College was started in the academic year 1985-1986. The scheme was started with an intension to seed the nature of helping tendency within the youth society. Started with the strength of few volunteers, now the tree of NSS has reached to about 900 volunteers in the current academic year 2018-2019. The roots of service have spread its extent to a larger space and cherished the needy.

The NSS has been organizing many activities like campus cleaning, awareness programs, blood camp, health check-up and rally on different issues. Added to it, we have been conducting a national level technical symposium “Prasidhi” to reveal the technical issues that could solve social issues. Apart from it, we also conduct special camps in which we adept a village in and around Erode and help them with their basic needs. We educate school student in streams like abacus, computer usage, making craft works, yoga and games. A few awareness programs are also conducted for the villager as well as school children.

The role of N.S.S. becomes very important in this context as constitution of India also envisages that it is fundamental duty of every citizen to protect and improve the natural environment. NSS benefits both students as well as the society. It shapes the students for a better youth society. It seeds the nature of humanity in the young minds and enriches the nature of environment around them.

Vision

The vision is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for the social uplift of the down-trodden masses of our nation as a movement.

Mision

The programme aims to inculcate social welfare in students, and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity.

Objective

The objective of the NSS team of Kongu Engineering College is to work united and brings powerful changes in the sustaining world and to show tremendous growth in the society.

  SWACHH BHARAT SUMMER INTERNSHIP (SBSI)

  @ 5 Adopted Village

  " Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign in India that aims to clean up the streets, roads and infrastructure of India’s cities, smaller towns and urban areas. It is a 100 hour internship plan programme, in which 8 team of volunteers worked for different villages. Villages were adopted and given awareness on Clean India movement, avoiding plastic usage and hygienic sanitation facilities."

  BLOOD DOANTION CAMP

  @ Indoor Stadium, KEC

  Blood camp in association with Management Studies was conducted to help the needy at emergency situations. 110 units of blood were donated. Many students, staff and workers donated blood.

  ORPHANAGE VISIT

  @ Kongu Arivalayam, Thindal

  Special children and mentally retarded children at orphans were visited. Fun activities were conducted motivating the little minds and cultural activities were conducted.

  A Mega Health Camp
  Health is wealth. The event aims to promote the welfare of all students, staff, workers, drivers and all beings in and around the college.

  DISTRICT YOUTH PARLIAMENT

  @ Kongu Arts and Science College

  Around 11 volunteers from Kongu Engineering College attended DYP conducted by the Central Government of India. The contribution of youth towards society were exposed.

  REPUBLIC DAY PARADE

  @ Chennai, Tamilnadu

  Pre- Republic day parade (26.10.2018 to 04.11.2018) was conducted to select volunteers for republic day parade to honor the dignitaries. A volunteer from Kongu Engineering College was selected for the event. Republic day parade was performed in-front of our honorable Chief Minister Mr.E.Palanisamy.

  Self Defense Programme
  Self-defense for women was educated. Various defense activities, twisters and lecture on defense mechanism was conducted. Handling tough situations by women were illustrated and an awareness programme was proided.

  VOTING AWARENESS PROGRAMME

  @ C K Prahalad Seminar Hall, MBA Block, KEC

  An awareness programme on the voting mechanism was conducted. Procedures carried out and the use of voting machine was demonstrated since a new voter should know all about the supreme importance of voting and claim their right. Erode Collector Shri. C. Kathiravan addressed all the NSS volunteers and demonstrated about the election voting.

  A National level technical symposium conducted by the NSS volunteers. Technical and non-technical events based on themes like green environment, youth contribution for society were conducted.

  To sustain a healthy environment and maintain a clean surrounding for the institution. Seperating bio-degradable and non-bio degradable wastes and disposing them safely. Periodical cleaning of surrounding to maintain cleanliness throughout the year

• Emergency Blood Donation

  @ Nearby Hospitals

  BE A BLOOD DONAR, BE A HERO…!!!
  Donating blood at emergency situations and helping the patients. Donars are availed at necessary time and to respective hospitals.

• Paper Bag Making

  @ KEC Campus

  The motto of the work is to eradicate the use of plastic bags inside the campus. Paper bags are prepared and provided to shops and stores inside the college institution. The use of plastic are controlled to a considerable extent inside the campus.
